Whether it’s a chemical intermediate to make an important pharmaceutical ingredient or a pristine solvent, having a pristine ethyl alcohol that yields fewer by-products is very important. Surfactants generally are high in viscosity, so ethanol provides a means of reducing their viscosity while increasing their hydroscopic properties. It further acts as a lower cost diluent in solvent blends.
