The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines maltodextrins, (C6H10O5)n•H2O, CAS Reg. No. 9050-36-6, as non-sweet, nutritive saccharide polymers that consist of D-glucose units linked primarily by alpha-1-4 bonds, having a DE less than 20. They are prepared as a white powder or concentrated solution by partial hydrolysis of corn starch with safe and suitable acids and/or enzymes. Maltodextrins are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) ingredients at levels consistent with current good manufacturing practices (21 CFR 184.1444). Maltodextrins have both Food Chemical Codex and National Formulary monographs.

Corn syrup solids, (C6H10O5)n•H2O, CAS Reg. No. 68131-37-3, are defined by the FDA as dried glucose syrup (21 CFR 168.121) in which the reducing sugar content is 20 DE or higher. Corn syrup solids are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as direct human food ingredients at levels consistent with current good manufacturing practices (21 CFR 184.1865). Corn Syrup Solids are covered by a monograph in Food Chemical Codex under “Glucose Syrup, Dried,” and by an NF monograph listed as “Corn Syrup Solids.”

MALTRIN OR™ organic rice maltodextrins and rice syrup solids are very similar to the conventional MALTRIN® products. The main difference is they are manufactured from organically grown rice in accordance with the USDA’s National Organic Program standards. The entire process is inspected and approved by Quality Assurance International as organic.

Corn starch is a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) food ingredient. It can also be purchased as NF grade meeting the requirements for the NF monograph for Corn Starch.

Food starch-modified is not regulated under the GRAS regulations, but it is approved as a food additive under 21CFR 172.892. All the food modified starches that are manufactured at Grain Processing Corporation are made in accordance with this regulation.

GPC NF and USP starches are manufactured under current GMPs to meet the requirements set forth in the specific NF or USP monograph for that starch.

TruBran® fibers meet the requirements for an excellent source of fiber and can be incorporated into many applications. TruBran® corn bran and TruBran® oat fiber are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA.

Drug Master File numbers for MALTRIN® and starch products are available upon request.
