spotlightDon’t Sugar Coat It!Aqueous film coatings have been used on tablets, capsules, beads, and powders for many years. These coatings enhance the finished product by protecting it from environmental factors, making it easier to swallow and allowing improved product recognition. Coatings can also mask unpleasant colors, flavors and odors. Historically, tablets were sugar coated which provided a very glossy, aesthetically pleasing coating. Many aqueous film-coating polymers used today result in a dull coating on the tablets. INSTANT PURE-COTE® B793 Pregelatinized Modified Starch NF is designed to provide clear, water-soluble films with excellent sheen. These films can be used in pharmaceutical, nutritional, food, cosmetic or agricultural applications including aqueous film coating of tablets, spheres, and particulates. INSTANT PURE-COTE® B793 is a cost-effective polymer and is very easy to use in production. The viscosity of the coating solution produced from INSTANT PURE-COTE® B793 is very low, which enables an increase in the solids of the coating solution. This allows the desired weight gain to be applied to the solid dosage form with shorter production time. Therefore, these high solids coating formulations save time and money. INSTANT PURE-COTE® B793 can be used as the primary polymer or as a secondary polymer in aqueous film coatings resulting in a uniform, continuous, glossy and clear coating. With the addition of flavors, sweeteners, etc., a coating can be developed to mask unpleasant flavors and odors inherent in the solid dosage form. INSTANT PURE‑COTE® B793 also enhances the properties of color aqueous film coatings by adding solids to the formulation and gloss to the finished product.
