spotlightTruBran® Corn Bran SupplyGrain Processing Corporation (GPC) is pleased to offer our customers ample supply of TruBran® corn bran starting in November 2011. Did you know most Americans consume only about half of the amount of daily fiber recommended by the Institute of Medicine1? TruBran® corn bran, a golden brown fiber made from yellow dent corn, can help address consumer needs for more fiber while providing many functional benefits. During the past several years, availability of quality corn bran has been severely limited. GPC has ample supply of high quality TruBran® corn bran that has a minimum of 85% total dietary fiber and very low micro counts. As part of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) developed by the American Dietetic Association, the recommended fiber consumption is 38g/day for adult men and 25g/day for adult women, compared to the typical intake in the U.S. of 15g/day2. For children, recommended amounts are 5g/day plus the age of the child2. According to the American Dietetic Association, there are many benefits of fiber, including protection against cardiovascular disease and diabetes, promotion of gastrointestinal health, and enhanced weight management2. The latest survey by the International Food Information Council showed that 72% of Americans want to consume more fiber3. Adding TruBran® corn bran to product formulations can help more consumers reach the recommended amount of daily fiber in their diet, while providing functional properties such as enhancing texture and minimizing impact on flavor and color. Unlike other fibers, TruBran® ingredients have low water absorption making them easy to incorporate. Because of its high fiber content, it can be added at levels sufficient to justify fiber claims without sacrificing product quality. TruBran® ingredients work in a variety of food and beverage applications, including baked goods, batter, breadings, snacks and cereals. Nutraceutical applications also benefit from the inclusion of TruBran® ingredients, which includes agglomeration and wet granulation, capsules, direct compression tablets, dry blends, nutritional bars/ beverages and soft chews. GPC’s Technical Service group is available to help manufacturers formulate with TruBran® corn bran.
