Efficient energy utilization is an important part of how we run our business. Practicing responsible energy consumption helps reduce our dependency on natural resources and keeps the environment clean for the next generation. Since 2001, we have reduced our energy consumption as follows:

• Reduced coal usage by 22%
• Reduced natural gas consumption by 8%
• Cut electrical energy usage by 8%

GPC achieved these goals by employing energy efficient process technology. Heat integrated distillation systems, improved feed dryer technology and the use of high efficiency motors helped to drive these positive changes. The cumulative effects of these improvements reduced our total energy usage by 18% since 2001.

GPC has made impressive strides during the past 10 years and we have set aggressive sustainability goals for the future. We are working to reduce coal consumption by an additional 14% and total energy consumption by an additional 6% by 2016. These targets are tracked by our energy control system. A key component in achieving these goals is the installation of a new energy efficient feed dryer at our Muscatine facility. Construction of the $75 million, state-of-the-art feed dryer is scheduled for completion in 2015.
