Label-Friendly Ingredient for Nutraceutical Applications

A rising trend in the nutraceutical industry is the need for label-friendly, yet functional ingredients for use in new and existing formulations. Sustainability, naturally-derived and non-GMO are all important factors when choosing a functional ingredient. GPC has added MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup to its globally marketed MALTRIN® line of carbohydrates. This ingredient is a bland, minimally sweet carbohydrate powder produced from corn of U.S. origin, and it’s available as Non-GMO Project Verified.

MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup is a readily digestible carbohydrate that can be used as an excellent source of energy for nutritional products. It is ideal for spray drying, nutritional bars, beverages and other nutritional applications. MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup contributes reduced sugars (DP1/DP2) compared to other products with a similar dextrose equivalent (DE). It is easy to disperse and has excellent clarity and a neutral flavor due in part to its unique carbohydrate polymer profile.

Applications

Spray Drying
Bland flavor, high solubility and ease of drying, make MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup ideal for spray drying flavors, active nutraceutical ingredients and other products. It’s also used as an encapsulation aid, carrier and binder.

Nutritional Beverages
Along with being an excellent source of energy, MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup contributes body and viscosity in ready-to-drink nutritional beverages. It builds solids for enhanced mouthfeel without adding flavor or sweetness. These same attributes are true when formulating dry mix beverage formulations. MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup has reduced sugars (DP1/DP2) compared to corn and tapioca syrup solids products which are typically used in beverage formulations. Nutritional Bars
MALTRIN SS® dried glucose syrup can build solids to improve mouthfeel, moderate sweetness, and provide a neutral flavor in nutritional bars and breakfast cookies. It contributes reduced sugars compared to other products of a similar DE and gives the bar an excellent texture, while maintaining moisture retention. MALTRIN SS® also serves to bind together other ingredients, such as nuts, oats, seeds, grains and other nutritious additives. Since it doesn’t add color, it allows these ingredients to remain visible and identifiable, providing consumers with aesthetic appeal.
